Ardingly Triathlon Race Instructions
SPRINT/ NOVICE, DUATHLON and Children's Aquathlon (Provisional)

STANDARD DISTANCE INSTRUCTIONS HERE

Inside 30 days no refunds or transfers possible

This event is for those triathletes who wish to enjoy a friendly, family run event and who want to enjoy a triathlon, which is set in one of the most beautiful parts of the Sussex countryside. The competitor entries are going to be fewer than in recent years, to ensure the start time you are given, is the one we can deliver.

VENUE

Ardingly College, Colllege Road, Ardingly, Nr Hayards Heath, W. Sussex,RH17 6SQ . Frm the North approach down on the A22 turning off right on to the B2028 towards Hayewards Heath, Through Ardingly village turn right into Colleg road. From the South, Head for Haywards Heath on B2028 turn right after Oathall school junction into College Road follow up to the college.

ARRIVAL

All triathlon competitors must be on site by start of the event (8.00am). Children's Aquathlon event please enter site via the Ardingly reservior road, not the college entrance as this will be the cycle entrance/exit. Please park in the primary school car park and walk up to the main college area. Marshals will be in place to show you where to park.

REGISTRATION

Opens at 6.45am and will close at 7.45am prior to the briefing and start. Please ensure you register before closure as volunteers will be required to move to marshalling points for the race start.

Childrens Aquathlon: Registration will be open from 9.00am to 10.00am for a start to be confirmed around 10.15am

Each competitor will receive:

  • a goodie bag
  • two race numbers (back for the cycle, front for the run)
  • pins to secure number
  • In adtion the Children's Aqua competitors will have a coloured wrist band to wear during the event.
  • Day Race Licence (or you will show your current BTF licence and receive your refund)
  • You will be 'Body marked' with your race number on your upper LEFT ARM and LEFT CALF

Cycles to be placed into transition AFTER registration and MUST have the race number label attached to your cycle before entry.

Remember to bring your BTF race licence with your to get your £3 refund (£1 Aquathlon). Failure to do so, the refund cannot be made.

RACE BRIEFING SPRINT/NOVICE (TRIATHLON)

This will be held down next to the pool for all triathlon competitors. All to attend to be updated on race course information and special instructions for your safety.

TRANSITION 1

This is positioned outside the pool exit and ALL competitors will place shoes in this area ready for the run to the main cycle transition area.
All shoes to be placed in a safe manor not blocking the exit of blocking other competitors.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

SWIMMING SECTION

STANDARD DISTANCE -All details HERE

SPRINT and NOVICE EVENTS

Please approach poolside from the front entrance, on then to poolside, round to the right.
Line up in numbered order ready for your start. Please do not disturb the Swim Starter (Lisa) as she will be busy.

NOVICE START (200m)
The swim will be a 'Snake' type starting in the shallow on the farside away from the exit. Competitors will be started approx 20-30seconds appart and will swim keeping to the right. Swim up and down the lane, at the shallow end drop down under the lane rope into lane 2 and again swim up & down keeping to the right, and so on until all lanes have been used = 200m swim.
Exit the pool and into the shoe transition area.

SPRINT START(500m)
* Wait/que in race number order.
* Go to the lane you have been asked to
* Report to the swim count marshal, show then your number.
*Put on the coloured swimming cap handed to you
* You will be told in which direct to swim.
* Stand back and wait to be told to get in by the Swim Starter.
* Get yourself ready, you will be given a 5second coundown to start.
* Ensure you count your swim lengths, the marshal is there to assist you.
* The mlane marshal will show you a '2' lengths to go board.
* On finish and exit ensure you take off and leave the coloured swim cap.
* Please do not run on poolside.
* Out through thepoolside exit doors to the side and into' transition area 1.

TRANSITION

From Transition 1 area, with your shoes on, run up the hill and along the marked course to the main cycle transition area. Locate your cycle, before touching your bike put on and secure your cycle helmet. When ready take your cycle and walk/run to the cycle exit (Do not ride). You will be directed to stop and mount in a marked area. Check the way is clear and start your cycle section.

DUATHLON

This race will be a mass start next to the Cycle transition area and the finsh. You will complete two laps of the course and then make your way to the Transition 'IN' entrance to ensure you cross the timing mat to get your first split time.Locate your cycle, before touching your bike put on and secure your cycle helmet. When ready take your cycle and walk/run to the cycle exit (Do not ride). You will be directed to stop and mount in a marked area. Check the way is clear and start your cycle section.

Then follow the remaining triathlon instructions.

CYCLE SECTION(23km)Map

When on the highway the rules of the 'highway Code' MUST be followed. Failure to do so will mean disquailification and risk the event in the future. There is 'NO Drafting' meaning you keep 10 metres from the cyclist in front, unless overtaking. If overtaken YOU must drop back 10metres.

Cycle up the road to Ardingly Village and TURN LEFT on to the B2028, through the village the raod narrows-take care. Past Wakefield Place (National Trust) and Ardingly Showground on to Turners Hill. Just before there is a mini roundabout- straight over and up the hill.

At the Turners Hill junction TURN LEFT, on to Paddockhurst Road B2110 past Worth School.

At the next junction, The Cowdray PH, TURN LEFT into the London Road B2036.

Approaching Balcome mini-roundabout, TURN LEFT into the Haywards Heath Road, then into Stonehall Lane and then Borde Hill Lane.

After passing under the railway bridge, 300m TURN LEFT into Copyhold Lane. THIS IS A TURN INTO A STEEP HILL- LOW GEAR REQUIRED BEFORE TURN.

At the next junction TURN LEFT into College Road and on to the college

You will be directed to a marked area to dismount and then run/walk with your cycle to your position in the cycle transition. There will be Raynet radio comms unit on each turning point, if you have noticed a fellow competitor having problems i.e. a puncture, please let them know then we can come and help them out with a lift back.

TRANSITION FROM CYCLE TO RUN

Place your cycle in the correct position before unfastening and taking off your cycle helmet. When ready run through the 'Run out' exit on to the run.

RUN SECTION (5km-Sprint/Duathlon -4 laps, 2.5km-Novice- 2 laps)

Each run lap is 1.25km. At the start of each lap you will collect a wrist band to assist your counting. A check will be made on the course and at the finish to ensure you have completed the correct number of laps. IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF EACH COMPETITOR TO ENSURE THE CORRECT DISTANCE IS COVERED.

FINISH

The finish awaits the competitor and the reward of an event medal, a drink and the roar of the crowd. The Timekeeper should be able to give you your time at the finish, a few seconds after you cross the line.

RESULTS

There will be interim results available after the last competitor has crossed the line, these will be to determin the prize winners. The full interim results will be posted on the web on the same evening. Any issues are to be raised with the race organiser ASAP. On the following Wednesday the results will be declared final.

Prizes in the age groups will be given out at the end of the event.

RACE BRIEFING
This will start next to transition, then move to outside the pool, prior to the start, please listen for announcements, approx 10.10am

Following completiion of the triathlon swim the aquathlon race will begin and run in the order. 8-10yrs fun-aqua, 9-10yrs Tristars1, 11-12yrs Tristars 2, 13-14yrs Tristars 3.

The swim will be controlled with two competitors to a lane and under 'wave' starts max of eight. A coloured swim cap will not be needed to help count lengths.

Exiting the pool via side doors into the transition area where shoes, running top and race number will be put on. Shoes laces must be tied/safe, running top properly on and race number visible BEFORE exiting the transition area. PARENTS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO INTERFERE OR ASSIST IN ANYWAY. FAILURE TO ADHERE TO THIS RULE COULD MEAN A TIME PENALTY TO THE COMPETITOR.

Exiting the transition area all will run toward the cycle transition area. At the entrance turn LEFT on to the run course. The children's lap course is the main section of the triathlon course a total of 600m a lap. At the start of the lap competitors will collect a band to help them count the laps.

After completing the course, they finish through the same finish.

All competitors must be wearing the coloured band issued at registration as this shows which race they are in and will indicate to the marshals the number of laps to be completed.

All will received a medal, prizes allocated will be;
Tristars1 ,2, 3, for 1st, boy & girl.

TOILETS
These will be in the main college building and will be signed, also down in pool changing area.

FIRST AID
Supplied by St Johns Ambulance and will be positioned in front of the main college building.

CATERING
There will be a mobile catering service for tea,coffee, soft drinks, snacks and hot food in front of the main building.

PUBLIC ADDRESS
Music and commontary through the event will start at 9am, please listen out for announcements that may affect the race, we will try and give yora name check around the course.
